About Bethesda…

Kensington PalaceFor over 140 years, Bethesda Baptist Church has been a shining light of God’s Gospel to the community. In 1823, the building was errected by workers at Kensington Palace, just a short walk away, and was known as the “Labourers Chapel”. Shortly after her establishment in 1866, Bethesda moved into the chapel and has been faithfully ministering there ever since. Bethesda has seen her share of challenges over the years including bomb damage during World War II, imminent closure during the early 1980’s and fierce opposition just a few years ago. However, through faith, Bethesda remains the strong body of believers that she is today.

Bethesda Chapel, 1866Bethesda is multicultural and reflects the diverse population of London. It is not uncommon to have between 20-25 nationalities represented in a typical Sunday Worship. What makes Bethesda so warm and friendly is that all barriers of culture and race are dissolved as we are united together in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. While we may not be viewed as a traditional English church, we are steadfast and conservative in nature. In short, we are not a modernistic “happy clappy” church, but we are a Spirit filled body of believers; we are not a dull and stiff church, but we are unwavering in our doctrine and practice; we are not a stereotypical “Baptist” church, but we are uncompromisingly Baptist and Fundamental.

The best way to know more about us is to simply come and visit with us! We have a number of activities and services throughout the week. Whether you are a resident or a visitor to London, you are warmly invited to join us.
